Video of 4/24 Rally

On April 24, 2007 over 400 public school teachers and paras rallied in front of the San Francisco School Board to protest the slow pace of contract negotiations. Frustrated that district negotiators have failed to respond to 15 of 18 union proposals, those in attendance sent a boisterous message – it’s time to get moving at the table.

The UESF bargaining team has been working tirelessly to make sure that San Francisco Unified can recruit and retain the very best educators. Our proposals include a fair pay raise, equal treatment for paraprofessionals, and adequate support for educators and students in the classroom.

At the rally, we were treated with music from the ‘Angry, Tired Teacher Band’ from Hayward. With the Hayward strike now stretching into its 11th day, their presence was a sobering reminder to the district not to make the same mistake as the Hayward Unified School District, and get moving at the negotiating table.

Special thanks to all of those who volunteered to make sure the rally was such a great success. We also thank the San Francisco Raging Grannies and the SF Labor Chorus for providing additional music at the event.

With negotiations set to continue on April 26 and 27, we hope that district negotiators got the message.
