Rally for Universal Healthcare

Assembly Members Mark Leno and Fiona Ma join supporters of SB 840UESF members participated in the San Francisco OneCareNow Rally held on August 8, 2007, in front of the corporate offices of Blue Shield. They joined 300 people to demand single payer healthcare and passage of SB 840.
The California OneCare Now Campaign is the nation's first-ever statewide grassroots campaign for universal health insurance. Teams in more than 365 California cities conducted grassroots educational and public awareness "action" events--one event per day, in a different city, for one year--to demand quality, affordable healthcare for all Californians. The final event was held in Los Angeles on August 11th.
CNA, the California Nurses Association brought a large wooden ‘Trojan horse’, named THE GOVERNOR’S HEALTH PLAN and covered with Blue Shield stickers.
Everyone who came received a DVD called The Healthcare Solution: California OneCare.
Folksinger, John Frommer, got the crowd singing. Participants were also treated to a guerilla theater skit presented by (HAT) Hospital Action Team led by James Chionsini with the HAT players, and featuring Hene Kelly, and Mike Lyon (SF Gray Panthers).
