2016-2107 Parent Opt Out Form for SBAC & IDA Assessments
Teachers have the right to inform parents that they can opt out their child from any assessment, including SBAC and the IDA (Interim District Assessment). This right exists under California Education Code 60615. Under the same regulation, as a district employee, you may not, however, encourage parents to do so. That means that you can tell parents that they have the right to opt out but are not supposed to actually advocate for opting out. The California Teachers Association has recently adopted policy that states that “educators shall be allowed without penalty, to inform parents, guardians and students of their legal rights to be exempted from standardized tests.”
