Thanks to all who those who made phone calls, sent emails, and attended rallies to stop the radical and unqualified Betsy DeVos from getting confirmed as Secretary of Education. Despite millions of calls and emails, however, fifty Republican senators placed their own narrow self-interest ahead of our schools and our students, confirming her today with the Vice President making the deciding vote.
The groundswell of opposition to DeVos may not have been successful in keeping her from the Department of Education, but it is the very basis on which we will continue to organize against any and all attempts by the new administration to attack our public schools, including stopping a proposed $20 billion school voucher program and defending the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
